Egemin Automation optimizes order picking concept at D'Ieteren
In the early 90s Egemin Automation developed and installed a high-capacity storage and order picking concept for the central spare parts warehouse of D’Ieteren in Kortenberg. Through the years this system was continuously fine-tuned by integrating new technologies like RFID. D’Ieteren’s confidence in the know-how and service of Egemin Automation is still growing and lead to a new assignment which involved the implementation of a new order picking concept.

Efficiency and return

The new concept allows D’Ieteren to shift from zone picking where the orders were systematically picked per zone to batch picking. From now on, all orders are sorted according to car dealer first and delivery route next. The advantages to this batch picking concept are particularly increased efficiency of the order picking process, a considerable reduction of the order throughput time and a higher fill density of the transport totes.

The E’wcs warehouse control software developed by Egemin Automation (Warehouse Control Software) provides a flawless link with the logistic software of D’Ieteren. This new concept will be integrated as from November 2008 and is scheduled for operational use as from March 2009. Regarding the planning of the installation, Egemin Automation and D’Ieteren have taken all precautionary measures to make sure the high service level towards the dealers was maintained. Egemin Automation also vouches for 24/7 stand-by assistance including preventive maintenance and custom-made spare parts programs.

D'Ieteren

D’Ieteren is active in 120 counties on five continents and is an internationally listed company (DIE – Euronext Brussels) with headquarters in Belgium. In addition to short-term car rental (AVIS Europe plc) and car glazing via Belron nv with its brands Carglass and Autoglass in Europe and Safelite in North America, D’Ieteren Auto distributes car brands for the Belgian market like Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Bentley, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Porsche and Yamaha.

The central warehouse at Kortenberg ensures the delivery of spare parts and accessories to more than 300 concessionaires. Founded in 1805, D’Ieteren is probably the oldest company that is still active in the distribution of carriages and cars and matching services to its users.
