Egemin delivers its third AutoStore® system in France
Investing in an automated AutoStore® order picking system is not limited to large groups. Today, it is possible to make a limited investment in an AutoStore® solution with a few hundred thousand euros. It is in any case the choice of a small French SME specialising in textile distribution via e-commerce, which was facing a strong growth in sales. Egemin Automation will implement an AutoStore solution for this SME, the first AutoStore® installation for Egemin in France after two installations in the Netherlands and in Belgium. The system will be commissioned in January 2017.

A compact and scalable storage system for small items

Increasing the number of orders required the optimisation of the order picking cycle times and storage capacity within the limits of the existing warehouse. Due to their dimensions and weights, the fabric items can be stored in bins. So, only the AutoStore® system completely responded to its objectives. In addition, Egemin’s AutoStore® solution combines the advantages of a compact and scalable store with those of a "goods-to-man" automated preparation process.

Unlike traditional miniload AS/RS systems with stacker cranes, AutoStore® is easily expandable: the storage capacity and picking capacity are not correlated. It is possible to expand the fleet of storage robots and the number of operator stations to increase the order picking capacity and add storage bins and storage cells to increase the capacity of the warehouse.

More ergonomic preparation stations

The order picking methodology brings in the advantages of a goods-to-person picking system. The reduction of unnecessary movements greatly reduces operator fatigue and increases productivity. The drastic reduction of picking errors ensures a higher quality of the picking process. The ergonomic set-up of the work stations increases the comfort of the operators.

Configuration of the AutoStore® solution

The AutoStore® solution designed by Egemin includes a storage grid consisting of 12 storage levels and 6 storage robots. It has a total height of 6.2 m, and a length and width of 12 m and accommodates 4,300 bins in total. The maximum payload per bin is 30 kg. Two carousels ports have been integrated in the system wto present the bins to the operators: one for picking purposes and another one for bin replenishment. The system is designed to operate 8 hours a day, handling 170 bins per an hour, which represents about 8,000 articles daily. In this configuration, the customer can prepare on average 300 orders daily. Noting an increase in sales of 20% each year, the customer will have the opportunity to double the storage capacity of its warehouse, while retaining the same storage space.

For Egemin France, this installation is a first, and its the third Autostore® project for the Egemin group since the signing of the distribution partnership with the Norwegian manufacturer, Hatteland, two years ago.
